Downtime details -Dec 12th 2006

It was literally a dark day in server-land today. Our webhosts suffered a power outage caused by a circuit breaker that blew. Unfortunately, our servers were running off that particular breaker, so LifeLogger was out for 1 1/2 hours (from GMT 02:30am to GMT 04:00am) while the offending breaker was being repaired.

We're sure this unforeseen downtime would have been pretty upsetting for those of you were in the midst of uploading entries/blogging/browsing LifeLogger when it occurred, and we're awfully sorry about that.

Please be assured that this is an anomaly- such occurrences are very rare, and we constantly try our best to keep these un-shiny incidences at bay.

We're glad to say that we've been back in full swing since then =)

Posted by Spamela

Homosapiens generally try to hover around our comfort zones for as long as we can cling onto it. While I've always been a Nokia fan since days yonder, being stuck to my 6230/i phones for the longest time is something I have come to regret.

Dinesh was virtually screaming to us all the virtues of the Symbian/Series 60 OS many months ago. Especially how the Nseries brings media capture and sharing forward a few generations ahead of the competition. Of course we knew that, as we constantly used Nokia's new phones in the office during brainstorming and engineering work, which has resulted in Nokia specific feature sets within LifeLogger (more to come soon).

The moment I switched to the N90, bliss arrived! Just click the video below and see for yourself. Its my first ever video on the Nseries.

Oh dear. Something went a little nuts while we were sending out LifeMail this week, and some of you may have received the plaintext version of LifeMail that is rather impossible to read because it's not properly spaced and the line breaks have all gone mad/are non-existent. Please be assured that this is NOT our whacky new layout- it's a booboo. And we're very very sorry about it!

We'll be sending out the properly formatted version of this week's LifeMail in a little while. You can also view it at lifelogger.com/lifemail/013/

To make up for this mix up, we're giving everyone an extra 100 stamps for this month. You'll be able to notice this upgrade in your LifeLog in a few hours. Enjoy!

Peace?

Posted by Spamela

As some of you may have noticed, there was a little kink in last week's (rather mighty) release of feature updates that caused some of your custom backgrounds to make a disappearing act.

Please put the chainsaw down, we come bearing good news! The kink has been ironed out and your smashingly unique background should be back in one piece now, right where you left it.

We are terribly sorry for the temporary panic this may have caused. We can imagine the horror you'd have experienced seeing the product of your painstaking CSS tweaks senselessly disappear without a warning or goodbye. Please be assured that it's all over now, we've fixed all the necessary bits, and everything is going to be ok.

Here's a hug to make it all better.

Because it's a Monday: If your custom background is still missing in action after our fix, send your death threats to help@lifelogger.com.

Posted by Spamela

I was asked in Los Angeles a few weeks ago, "What was the inspiration
for LifeLogger? How did you guys get the idea to build something like
this?" ... I gave a slight chuckle. It was so clear then in Q3 2004
that there was nothing out there that could fulfill my needs.

We had it before and now they are back for grabs. You can view and download the free avatars from these albums: Cousins and 2nd Cousins.

Now you no longer need to rely on the half-truths of your petrified boyfriend/girlfriend/spouse/sibling/parent/friends/third removed cousin when you ask loaded questions.

They can now rate you on LifeLogger. Wondering if the camera really adds 5 pounds? Just upload your videos/photos to LifeLogger and get them to rate you! That way, they can speak in stars (just click on the stars at the right of each entry- more stars=good, less stars=less good) and they won't have to look you in the eye while they lie.

You can rate their entries too! In fact, everyone in LifeLogger can rate each other's entries. All entries are rate-able --Photos, videos, audio, bookmarks, blog entries, the works! Rating entries is a truly noble thing because highly rated entries are easily browsable from the 'Top Rated' tab in your Entries section, and by actively rating, you are making a democratic contribution to that list.

Go forth and rate.

Logged by Spamela

We know many of you have missed them since the release of this new beta, so this reunion of simple features & iron fists is indeed a sentimental one. You can now pick and choose your Snippets and customise your menu bar so you never have to see links that displease you again. Your LifeLog, your call. Get down and dirty now- Go to Look&Feel>Snippets and Look&Feel>Menu Bar to turn your wishes into commands. You know you want to.
